pb & oatmeal

most mornings, it is easiest to make a 1/2 cup serving of oatmeal and add a bit of peanut butter. mighty maple by peanut butter & co is a new discovery in my kinda boring first meal of the day. it is a bit gritty probably because it contains no hydrogenated oils (it's just good ol natural peanut butter) but texture has never bothered me. i can see jiffy moms and dads everywhere grossed out by this peanut butter, as for me, i think it is fab. next im going to try white chocolate wonderful. seriously, how fabulous, maple and white chocolate peanut butter! i am easily amused.

in other news, my mother in law has gone kosher. she mentioned at "dinner" on sunday (i say it like that because they eat at 1 or 2 and that is hardly dinner time to me, but that is what she calls it) that she needed to get a salad plate to use instead of the dinner plate. i immediately thought of mindless eating as that is one of the suggestions in the book. you will eat what is on your plate and if the plate is smaller you will have a tendency to eat less. that began the conversation about her diet. it is quite an interesting story actually. she has gone to see a doctor named Chalan (sp?) who is supposed to be a detox expert. his theory is that anything you consume that is not clean according to Livitican law inhibits your body's natural defense, leaving it susceptible to diseases because you are so busy fighting off the junk in what you eat that you cannot naturally fight off any other invading cells, even your own cells gone rogue (otherwise known as cancer). the diet calls for consumption of a large daily quantity of distilled water with lemon which cleanses your system and helps remove dead cells. her sister, while battling cancer, started this diet system and is currently cancer free, much to the confusion of her physicians. obviously different diets work for different people and your body is an amazing machine that can help to heal itself especially if you have the will to fight. your mind can influence what your body does. i just think it is great that she is trying something that seems to help her feel better and is healthy for her. she was telling me sunday that she now has a new appreciation for my lifestyle and diet because she now has to ask people "what is in this" and sometimes tell them "i cannot eat that" which she has heard me say since she met me. it's interesting to watch someone deal with changing their lifestyle and eating habits and how they affect their social life and the people around them. i find that so often people have no idea what it is like to say "oh, im sorry, i can't eat that" and have to explain why only to then answer a barrage of questions that challenge your beliefs.

we are supposed to do a book swap. mindless eating for Dr. Chalan's book.
i am interested to read his theories.
now back to studying for my advanced stats exam.
